Many know that journalists should leave their bias beliefs out of the article.
Although this is what should happen, often times the reader can tell for his or herself what views the writer has.
However, leaving out your bias thoughts doesn’t just apply to the article. When completing an assignment, don’t take away from the story by being a distraction.
Don’t wear clothing that is branded. This means no affiliations with sports teams, colleges or companies other than the news business you are with.

Also, for the ladies, don’t wear flashy jewelry, bright nail polish and overpowering perfume.
Guys, some of the biggest distractions may come from how you’re dressed. Make sure the patterns flow and colors go together well.
From my own experiences and what I have observed, when the person oh are interviewing is distracted by your appearance, you won’t get the best interview you can possibly get.
Cool article. Simple and sweet. A little humorous, if that was your intention. Don’t think I have ever seen a reporter wearing a team jersey, let alone, the team being interviewed.
Thanks! I posted this because of a conversation I had yesterday with a staff writer. We are covering a game tonight and she said she wanted to wear a shirt with one of the school’s insignias on it.
I told her that when covering any event it’s best to have nondescript clothing.
The flashy jewelry and loud clothing is more from observing what anchors are wearing on TV. Sometimes, and not always, I see brightly colored nails and I lose focus on what she is reporting about. This may seem silly but with many people losing interest after 10 seconds its important to remember little details.
Have you ever been distracted by what someone was wearing?
